Reading the Bible in a Year (Even if You’ve Tried and Stopped Before)

Let’s talk about that big goal a lot of us have—reading the whole Bible in a year. Sounds impressive, right? And maybe a little intimidating? If you’ve started before and fizzled out somewhere in the Old Testament, or April, you’re not alone. But let me tell you—you can do this.

Here’s the thing: reading the Bible isn’t about earning gold stars or impressing anyone. It’s about getting to know the God who loves you, leads you, and invites you into His story. Every page points to Jesus. Every book has something for your heart, your struggles, and your purpose.

Is it easy? Not always. Some parts are tough. (Looking at you, genealogies, temple measurements, and bloody battles.) But every time you open the Word, you’re planting seeds of truth, wisdom, and strength.

If you’re ready to try again—or try for the first time—here are a few tips:

  1. Pick a plan that fits your life. There are chronological, Old + New Testament combos, and even “5 days a week” versions. Find one that feels doable.
  2. Keep your Bible and journal handy. Even if it’s just one sentence a day, jot down what stands out. You’ll be amazed at how God speaks.
  3. Miss a day? Don’t quit. Grace over guilt, friend. Pick up where you left off.
  4. Ask God to meet you there. Invite the Holy Spirit to make the words come alive. He’ll show up.
  5. Celebrate progress. Don’t wait until you finish. Celebrate the fact that you’re showing up—one day at a time.

You don’t have to read it perfectly—you just have to read it faithfully. The Bible isn’t just a book to get through—it’s a life-giving story to live in.

You’ve got this, sister. One page at a time.
